Lemon Quartz

Lemon quartz is the lemon yellow variety of quartz. It is more lemon in color than a citrine, which has tones of orange in it.

It is very durable with a Mohs hardness rating of 7, making it a viable option for everyday jewelry or craft projects. The gemstone is considered transparent to translucent with a glass-like luster.

Lemon quartz is ideal for jewelry. Either in silver or gold jewelry, lemon quartz is usually cut in large sizes (as in 5 carats and up). It is being used in bold gemstone jewelry because it is easy and affordable to use a large lemon quartz (whereas other stones are simply not available or affordable in large sizes - like diamonds). The citrus colored stone is also worn as an alternate birthstone for the month of February.

Lemon quartz is a hexagonal silicon dioxide crystal. Although the gemstone is abundant throughout the world, they are most commonly mined in the metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary rocks of Brazil. Iron content of the rocks and lab supervised gamma radiation gives the gemstone its unique yellow-orange color The brilliant mineral-based stone can be found naturally when walking along river beds or on beaches where volcanic activity deposited molten sediment long ago.
